Educational/academic services Socialization and wellness activities; and Cultivation of habits that promote health and well-being Because a high percentage of the PABS staff has previously worked or is currently working in school districts in Georgia, they are familiar with Georgia’s Professional Standards and the Scope and Sequence for each content area on each grade level. Therefore, emphasis will be placed on the Performance Standards in Language Arts, Math and Social Studies. The staff will focus on raising the performance level of all students. Pre-assessment tests will be administered within three days of a student enrolling to determine the reading comprehension and math levels of the child. Through differentiation of instruction, the needs of each child will be addressed. Although differentiation of instruction will be high on the list of strategies to be used, questioning techniques for quality thinking will also be key. Teachers will continue teaching students how to think critically. Bloom’s Taxonomy has six levels that an instructor can utilize in teaching various concepts. Those six levels are Knowledge, Comprehension, Application, Analysis, Synthesis and Evaluation. The administration encourages and will monitor to make certain that three or four of the higher levels are used daily. Enrichment Activities Enrichment activities expand on students’ learning in ways that differ from the methods used during the school day. They often are interactive and project focused. They enhance a student’s education by bringing new concepts to light or by using old concepts in new ways. These activities are fun for the student, but they also impart knowledge. They allow the participants to apply knowledge and skills stressed in school to real-life experiences. Prevention, Counseling and Character Education These activities are designed to prevent youths from engaging in high-risk behaviors including the use of drugs and alcohol, promote the amelioration of the causal factors that may lead youths to participate in such activities through counseling and support, and or the cultivation of core ethical values such as caring, honesty, fairness, responsibility, and respect for self and others that are likely to constitute negative behaviors. Recreational Activities These activities are not academic in nature, but rather allow students time to relax or play. Sports, games and clubs fall into this category. Occasional academic aspects of recreation activities can be pointed out, but the primary lessons learned in recreational activities are in the areas of social skills, teamwork, leadership, competition and discipline.
