CRCT
Criterion – Referenced Competency Test (CRCT)
The purpose of the CRCT is to assess student’s knowledge and skills based on the
Georgia Performance Standards, and where other states apply, assessments are
based on that state’s standards.
The results of the CRCT assessment show how student, class, school, system, and
state are ranked.
The information from the CRCT is used to identify student’s strengths and
weaknesses as it relates to the instruction of the Georgia Performance Standards.
Who Must Take The CRCT?
In the state of Georgia, all students in grades 1 – 8 must take the CRCT in:
Reading English/Language Arts Mathematics
Students in grades 3 – 8 are also assessed in:
Science Social Studies





End Of Course Test (EOCT)
The EOCT assesses students in grades 9 – 12 for core subject’s knowledge and skills
mastery. The EOCT is comprised of the following eight subject content areas:
Mathematics
Algebra
Geometry
Science
Biology
Physical Science
The Georgia Department of Education states that: “The assessment provide
diagnostic information to help students identify strengths and areas of need in
learning, therefore improving performance in all high school courses and on other
assessments, such as the GHSGT. The EOCT also provide data to evaluate the
effectiveness of classroom instruction at the school and system level.
Social Studies
United States History
Economics/Business/Free Enterprise
English Language Arts
Ninth Grade Literature and Composition
American Literature and Composition





Georgia High School Graduation Test (GHSGT)
The GHSGT is the ultimate test in a student’s high school career. This test
ultimately determines whether a student will graduate from high school. The
English Language Arts and Mathematics portion of the test have been used since
2004 to measure Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) under the No Child Left Behind
Legislation.
“All students seeking to a Georgia High School Diploma must pass the Georgia High
School Graduation Test (GHSGT) in four content areas as well as the Georgia High
School Writing Assessment.” (Georgia Department of Education)
All juniors (11th graders) will take the test for the first time in the subject areas of:
English/Language Arts Mathematics Science
Social Studies The Writing Assessment
Students who have failed the test after four attempts and have met all other
graduation requirements will be eligible for a Certificate of performance only. No
Diploma will be awarded.
